About the Slack integration and security
Admins can enable the Slack integration for their organization. The Slack integration informs your team about changes and updates in Abstract.
When you authorize the Abstract integration for Slack, the Abstract app can:
- View basic information about users in your Slack workspace.
- View basic information about public channels in your Slack workspace.
- Send messages as Abstract to public channels in your Slack workspace.
- Add the ability for people to direct message or mention @abstract in your channels.

Set up the Slack integration
To integrate Slack with Abstract:
- Open the Abstract app (desktop or web).
- In the left side pane, click on the organization name.
- From the dropdown, select Organization Settings.
- Select the Integration tab.
- On the right side of the Slack integration tile, click CONNECT.
- Choose the Slack workspace you’d like to integrate with Abstract in the top right corner.
Note: You may need to sign in with your Slack credentials. - Click Authorize.
Set the default Slack channel

Open the Abstract app (desktop or web).

In the left side pane, click on the organization name.

From the dropdown, select Organization Settings.

Select the Slack integration.

Select your default channel under Default Slack Channel.

Click SAVE CHANGES.
Turn on per-project updates
Once the Slack integration is set up, you can turn on Slack notifications for specific projects in your organization.
Per-project updates are not available for private Slack channels.
To turn on updates for a project:

Open the Abstract app (desktop or web).

In the left side pane, click on the organization name.

From the dropdown, select Organization Settings.

Select the Slack integration.

Click Per-Project Channels in the left side pane.

Click Add Project Channel in the top right corner.
- Select the Project you want Slack updates for.
- Select the Slack channel where you want to receive notifications about your selected project.

Click Save Project Channel.
Abstract will now post updates about this project in the Slack channel you selected.
Disable Slack updates for a project
When you have installed the Slack integration for Abstract and set a default channel, all projects in your organization send update notifications to the default channel except for any projects that have per-project notifications. You can silence any project's notifications by disabling them in the per-project channel settings.

Open the Abstract app (desktop or web).

In the left side pane, click on the organization name.

From the dropdown, select Organization Settings.

Select the Slack integration.

Click Per-Project Channels in the left side pane.

Click the more options menu [three dots icon] at the right side of a per-project channel and select Change channel...
Note: If you do not have any per-project channels, follow the steps to create a per-project channel, but set the toggle on instead of choosing a Slack channel. -
Click the toggle next to Disable notifications for project so that it is green.
My Slack notifications aren’t working
If you are having trouble with Slack notifications, confirm that Slack notifications are turned ON.
